Challenge
The Courtyard on Eagleson is dedicated exclusively to Memory Care. Extra consideration had to be given to the Wayfinding because of the specialized needs of the residents (and ensure compliance with the AODA).
Solution
Aroh designed the ID plates and Memory Boxes that were recessed 4” into the walls outside each resident’s entry to eliminate any protruding items. This feature provides additional safety while navigating the hallways. The doors of the boxes cannot be opened by the residents, thereby ensuring the contents remain untouched for constant aid in memory recall and assistance with locating their own rooms.
Residents also have an accompanying photograph of themselves in addition to the memory box and their suite number. Other wayfinding tools were used in the residence to help visitors navigate through the building, and locate the correct suite of their loved ones.
